Dtape is a OS/2 PM program which provides the facilities to record and replay digital audio directly to/from disk - a digital tape recorder.

Features include peak level monitoring and unlimited .WAV file sizes (up to 4GB). Also included are DPLAY and DRECORD, which are VIO programs for playing and recording digital audio.

New OS/2 API project mirror

I just mirrored the OS/2 API project from www.edm2.com/os2api to www.os2world.com/os2api.

I couldnt contact the original author of the site and last updates were years ago. I want to include my own TCP/IP for DOS/MDOS information and I will try to do updating. If the original author has anything against it, please contact my asap. If anyone wants to submit to this project (documenting the whole OS/2 API) just send the information to kiewitz@os2world.com.

In this release fixed an issue with MS-SMTP that returned a multi-line reponse on the helo command (contrary to rfc spec's no big surprise coming from MS).

We recommend that you update to this version, since mail would be returned if sent to a MS-SMTP server.

Chris Wohlgemuth has ported the VCDTools to OS/2

Video CDs are ordinary CDROMs in a special format which contain MPEG-1 encoded video.

For long times this type of CD was mostly known in Asia whereas Video CDs and the according players were mostly unknown in the USA and Europe. Since almost every DVD player can also play VCDs (and since the recordable Video DVD for a reasonable price seems still far away) VCDs are getting more popular everywhere. VCDs use a special type of CD sectors (mode 2 form 2) and have a special form of the filesystem.

DFSee 4.02

For those of you that don't know DFSee yet, it is an FDISK-like, display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems.

DFSee is a command-line and text-only utility (no GUI). This allows usage from simple boot-diskettes for recovery. The package includes an OS/2, Win-NT and DOS version.

DFSee can be downloaded from my web-site, but after evaluation, and for all real use you are required to get a registration. It can be purchased from the Mensys online shop for about US $18.

Version 4.02 updates and fixes:

• New argv/option parser used (recover -u -8.3 -q ...)

• Fixed NTFS 'findroot' when start is no MFT record

На рынке OS/2 тишина... Никаких крупных проектов вроде бы не разрабатывается. Тем не менее, людям нужно на чем-то зарабатывать деньги.

Наша любимая фирма Innotek (в частности, известная тем, что выпустила Flash-плагин для Netscape) занимается доработкой приложений Windows, чтобы они могли запускаться из под Odin'а.

Вот что написано на сайте фирмы InnoTek Systemberatung GmbH:

Каждое предприятие, на компьютерах которого установлена IBM OS/2 Warp или IBM Workspace On Demand, встречается с необходимостью постоянного применения программ Windows/32. Кроме стандартного ПО, такого как Lotus Notes, Lotus SmartSuite или Netscape, а также созданного на заказ родного осевого софта, существует много продуктов от "третьих фирм", которые нужны вам для бизнеса.

Часто, такие программы создаются лишь для Microsoft Windows/32, а версий для OS/2 либо не существует, либо доступна лишь старая версия. Причем портирование программы в среду OS/2 невозможно из-за дороговизны.

Решение проблемы

В этом случае, Innotek предлагает эффективное по стоимости решение по доработке Windows/32 приложений в нативные (родные для OS/2). Это превращение можно осуществить с помощью библиотек ODIN'а, которые позволяют выполнять Win32 приложение в среде OS/2, как родное без каких-либо потерь в производительности и с полным сохранением функциональности.
